Stephanie Knipper, Pure Imagination
I was prepared to talk about Stephanie Knipper’s debut novel, The Peculiar Miracles of Antoinette Martin, and to mention her love of fiber arts, her rainy day at the Kentucky Derby, and her biggest project, the raising of her six children (five of them were adopted from China); but then I stumbled across a post on her blog. In the midst of a recent news story that saddened me, I gasped as I read Stephanie’s story of depression and anxiety. My eyes teared up and my hands cupped my mouth as I realized how vulnerable we all are. This talented writer/novelist, creative soul, wife and mother, maker of hand bound journals, caretaker of children who have special needs, blogger… lives a full and blessed life… invaded by major challenges…
She titled the post, The Most Important Thing I’ve Ever Written. Read it. And be thankful for Stephanie’s courage to seek help.
___
The Peculiar Miracles of Antoinette Martin was inspired by Stephanie’s daughter, Grace, who has severe special needs; yet, an endearing dose of magical realism permeates this story which has received MUCH praise from the literary community.
