Jane Friedman, The Business of Being a Writer
If you’re an author or publisher, Jane Friedman is a name you probably know; and if not, you should. She is quite the guru in the publishing industry! Google her and watch the array of entities and expertise that pop up in association with her work, such as: The Great Courses, Publishers Weekly, The Hot Sheet, digital media strategy, and consulting; as well as a path that has included NPR, Writer’s Digest, The New York Times, and The Huffington Post… to name a few. Her newest book, The Business of Being a Writer, stems from that abundance and her quest to educate newbies – and not-so-newbies, too – with a realistic view of the necessity of caring for your craft as a business and all that it entails. Publishers Weekly said that it is “destined to become a staple reference book for writers and those interested in publishing careers.”
A few years ago, I began receiving one of Jane Friedman’s free email newsletters, Electric Speed. Imagine my excitement when I sat in the audience of a James River Writing Show in Richmond, Virginia, and there she was – sitting at the head table as a panelist! The audience listened intently as she spoke and devoured her answers during the Q&A.
There is much to be gleaned from Jane Friedman. Visit her website to peruse the info she generously provides (especially her blog!) and also, scroll down on her About Jane page to read The More Personal Take, which is a hodgepodge of fun facts that will make you ponder and smile.
Thank you, Jane, for this adorably kooky postcard! Motorbike Deer? Ha! I love it, along with your note of related experiences. 🙂
