LA, Books, and Country Music!
My first time in Los Angeles was an eye opening experience as I navigated the Santa Monica Freeway and the “four-oh-five” in my little rental car. I was 25 years old; there for a job interview. However, I landed in metropolitan Washington, D.C. for my new job and felt ready as possible for “The Beltway,” infamous in its own right.
I’m sure Book Clubber Carly knows the LA ropes, and by now, maybe her “new to LA” members do, too!

About the Lit Ladies Book Club
Number and names of current members: 9 – Sarah, Margo, Courtney, Carly, Ali, Jade, Britt, Betsy, Megan (Carly\’s Bookstagram: LA Book Club)
Age range: mid 20s – early 30s
Date of first meeting: August 2016 in Santa Monica, CA
Meeting Schedule: Once a month, about every 3rd Sunday
Meeting Place: “Usually one of the girls hosts at her house, but sometimes we mix it up and go to a restaurant or do a Happy Hour. We also go to a lot of country music concerts. (Who would have thought in California!)”
Food: “Snacks vary, but it’s usually cheese, wine, and lots of dessert! 🙂 One time, for Kitchens of the Great Midwest [by J Ryan Stradal] we all brought food from our childhood since quite a few of the members are from the Midwest.
Book selection method: “Book choosing has become pretty democratic. We bring our suggestions to the meeting and then create a Facebook poll for members to vote. Or if most of the members are at the meeting, we can vote right there and decide for the next month.”
Best book discussion: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
Book selection for August 2018: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Thank you Carly and Lit Ladies Book Club! Your Los Angeles postcard brings back memories of the beauty and excitement of the city.
